Chunky Fisherman...

{Sweater- H&M, Pants- J. Crew, Shoes- (old) Nine West, Necklace- (old) JCP}

This was my first purchase when H&M went live online (mentioned here).  I love the chunky fisherman style and in cotton it's oh so comfy!  Speaking of H&M online- the much anticipated Isabel Marant collection goes on sale tomorrow.  It's only available in select stores, but supposedly it will be available online as well beginning at 12pm EST.  Will it be Missoni for Target part 2?...

Wellness Wednesdays - #19 - 12 Reasons You Can't Lose Weight

 {Article here}

I recently came across this article from Women's Health.  Some of them seem so obvious, but I have to say - guilty as charged...  What about you?

So you’re eating well, working out, and that number on the scale still won’t budge. Even worse: Between tailgating season, Halloween, and the holidays, losing weight is about to get even harder. There is good news, though. You can take control. Just eliminate these surprisingly destructive habits and the sneaky foods that are responsible for destroying your diet.

#1 - YOU EAT WITH YOUR HANDS

A new study suggests that people who use tongs to serve themselves food actually eat about 30 percent less of it.

#2 - YOU'RE DRINKING TOO MUCH

Most people overlook liquid calories entirely.  So don’t expect to notice when a seemingly single-sized juice can or bottle actually contains two or three servings—and two to three times more calories.  Your best bet: Replace juice with water, and eat your calories instead of drinking them.

#3 - YOU EAT FRUITY YOGURT
Most fruit-flavored yogurts—and plenty of other healthy-sounding foods—are sweetened with fructose.  But unlike other sweeteners, this one doesn’t tell your brain you’re full, according to a new study.  The result: You end up eating way more calories than your body actually needs.

#4 - YOUR FAV TEAM IS LOSING

Turns out, you’re more likely to binge eat the day after your sports team bombs a big game, according to a 2013 French study.

#5 -  YOU HIT UP HAPPY HOUR - A LOT
People don’t realize just how many calories they drink.  What’s more, the alcohol in your cocktail can reduce your inhibitions, so you hit the happy hour menu (hello, nachos!) even harder.  To imbibe without overdoing it, stick to one of these delicious cocktails under 200 calories.  And switch to water after drinking one or two of them.

#6 - YOU'RE OVERDOING IT AT BREAKFAST
While the standard serving size for cereal is about two-thirds of a cup, breakfast bowls can hold much, much more.  So when you fill yours to the brim with cereal, and top it off with milk, you could be eating twice as many calories as you think—or more.

#7 - YOU TREAT YOURSELF A LITTLE TOO OFTEN

When you indulge in sweet or fatty foods like ice cream regularly, you end up craving larger portions to feel satisfied.  Need a sweet treat every day? A new study published in the journal Food Quality and Preference found that a few bites really will satisfy you just as much as a larger serving.

#8 - YOU'RE GUZZLING DIET SODA
Drinking calorie-free sweeteners is like dumping water in your gas tank instead of gasoline.  (For non-mechanics: It fills you up, but doesn’t keep your motor running.) When hunger strikes, drink water instead, and fill up on wholesome foods to drive off hunger pangs later.

#9 - YOU'RE DEPRIVING YOURSELF

When you cut out whole food groups (like carbs or fat, for instance) you set yourself up to binge eat them the next time you let yourself splurge.  So instead of crossing them off your grocery list, entirely, learn how to manage your strongest cravings with these tips.

#10 - YOU ORDER THE "REGULAR" SIZE

Think you’re in the clear because you downsized your large order of fries?  Turns out, people actually consume more calories when they order regular-sized menu items than when they order portions advertised as “double-sized”.

#11 - YOU'RE STAYING UP TOO LATE

People who hit the sack on the late side tend to eat more high-fat and high-calories foods than those who tuck in earlier.  No wonder they also gain more weight.

#12 - YOU THINK WORKING OUT GIVES YOU A "PASS"

Exercising can make you want to eat more—but that doesn’t mean you should.  And it doesn’t help that most people grossly overestimate the number of calories they torch at the gym.  The good news: Picking up the pace might actually decrease foods cravings, according to a new study.

J. Crew, I Love You... - #19 - MAISON LABICHE™ FOR J.CREW OOH LA LA TEE

{Available here}

So simple yet so cool - only Parisians could pull this one off!  J. Crew stumbled upon this tiny boutique on their last trip to Paris.  Owners and Parisian cool-girls Jenny and Marie do one thing and they do it really, really well: the classic white tee, hand-embroidered with little sayings.  They picked out two that are very close to their hearts - literally.  This is one of two that J. Crew is offering - also available in "I Love You".  $88 though?  I feel a DIY version coming...  :)

Tasty Tuesdays - #19 - Too Cheesy?

 {Recipe via}

With Thanksgiving just around the corner - it's always fun to think of a few new recipes to incorporate with the annual classics.  There are so many Pinterest recipes to choose from, but they so often end up in epic fails.  Here is a really cute easy hors d'oeuvres to try this year...pumpkin pie cheese and crackers.  Love!

Ingredients:

  • Cheddar cheese
  • Triscuit Thin Crisps
  • Chicken in a Biskit crackers
  • Wavy stick crackers from a bag of Chex Mix
  • Whipped cream cheese

Directions:

1 - Gather ingredients and slice cheese
Slice cheese into thick wedges, slightly smaller than your Triscuit Thin Crisps.

2 - Pipe cream cheese
Put cream cheese in a pastry bag.  Pipe tiny dollops of cream cheese on the Triscuit Thin Crisps, the Chicken in a Biskit crackers and the wavy stick Chex Mix crackers.  (You will need to combine two wavy stick Chex Mix crackers to create the top "crust" on each "slice of pie.")  Add a dollop of cream cheese on top of each cheese wedge for the "whipped cream."

3 - Assemble and display
Assemble and accessorize cheese wedges with the crackers to create your pumpkin pie slices.

4 - Surprise... they're actually cheese!
Surprise your guests with this cheesy pumpkin pie slice!

Solid Gold...

{Sweater- (old) Kohl's, Pants- (old) Kohl's, Shoes- (old) Gap, Necklaces- (old) Michael Kors}

Weather is dipping into the 30's this week - time to break out the sweaters!  This gold foiled number is from the clearance rack at the end of last year.  I love a good bargain and sometimes you don't feel like hunting when the season is almost over, but it's fun come the next year when there are new goodies to rock!

Music Mondays - #19 - Kelly Clarkson

{Available here}

I call Kelly Clarkson my guilty pleasure.  I think her and Carrie Underwood are really the only shining examples of talent that have come out of TV singing competitions, so we can give them a pass.  She just released her first ever Christmas album and I couldn't wait to pick it up!  For those of us that still put Mariah Carey's album on repeat during the holidays (also a guilty pleasure) - this is one that will surely live on as a classic for you as well.  A mix of classic songs and Kelly originals, you won't be disappointed!  A great stocking stuffer idea for any fan.  Here's her official lyric video for "Underneath The Tree"...

Japanese Jeans...

{Top- (old) Loft, Jeans- Gap, Shoes- (old) Nine West, Bracelets- (old) J. Crew}

With all of the technologies that fabrics have incorporated, sometimes it's nice to just go back to plain old cotton denim.  It's actually hard to find 100% cotton denim though!  Gap has introduced a Japanese Selvedge pair that I have been eyeing for quite sometime.  They're crafted from 13oz premium selvedge denim on vintage shuttle looms.  These are the kind of jeans that will reveal more character with every wear!  The pricepoint seemed a bit steep for Gap, but with a 40% off code and $20 in rewards certificates, they were a steal!

Fashion Fridays - #18 - Totally Turtlenecks!

{Images via}

I went thru a phase where I couldn't stand turtlenecks.  For some reason - I think I like them again!  When you find them in a chunkier looser silhouette - it just works!  I love them with a skinny pant, but there's also something great about pairing them with a pencil skirt too.  What do you think?  Here are a few that I think could fit the bill...

She's A Keeper...

{Dress- J. Crew, Shoes- G.H. Bass & Co., Necklace- J. Crew}

I first saw this J. Crew Keeper Chambray Shirtdress here.  It's such a versatile piece in my closet!  Today I'm keeping it casual but shiny with some gold oxfords and a chunky jeweled necklace.
